When Adam Kashmiry was eight years old he had a dream. “In the dream I was a boy,” he tells me. “I remember being scared that people would ask me how I had become a boy and yet at the same time feeling so very free.” The dream confused and unsettled Adam because, back then, he was a girl. A girl with a name that, today, he refuses to divulge — even to his own wife. These days Adam lives in a pebbledashed house on a quiet street on the outskirts of Glasgow, and is preparing to tour the UK in a National Theatre of Scotland stage show based on his life story.
