There is no doubt that the congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which advanced to the local government stage last weekend, have furthered deepened the crisis in the party in the Southeast. However, the underbelly of the party has been exposed since its congresses kicked-started some weeks ago, suggesting varied interests among its members. So far, the factions have continued to hold parallel congresses to elect their candidates with each claiming legitimacy and recognition. Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige was accused of manipulating the process in his favour against other party members. None of the gladiators in the state has so far embarked on parallel congresses.
