The Podesta Group lost its banker over news the firm did work for the U.S. subsidiary of a Russian bank under sanctions. She lost that night, and Mr. Podesta, like many who had banked on her victory, did too. Mr. Podesta responded to questions through a spokeswoman for the Podesta Group. Mrs. Podesta started her own lobbying firm, Heather Podesta + Partners, and they emerged a Washington power couple. Employees of the Podesta Group set up a system to prevent Mr. Podesta from being reimbursed by the company for personal expenditures.
