The Dow Jones Industrial Average begins October up 13.4% year-to-date after setting an all-time intraday high of 22,419.51 on Sept. 21. The eight “Dogs of the Dow” has an aggregate gain of 8% year-to-date, up from just 3.5% year-to-date at the end of August. The Dow 30 ended the third quarter at 22,405.09 with a positive but overbought weekly chart. The weakest 2017 dogs are IBM, Exxon Mobil and Verizon with declines of 12.6%, 9.2% and 7.3% year-to-date, respectively. The stock ended 2016 with a dividend yield of 3.84%, and it’s now 3.63%, still in the top ten.
