One of the most important jobs of a leader is ensuring the organizations they lead can build and improve their ability to manage through change. During a macroeconomic shock, leaders must recognize the importance of rapid decision-making and rethink their approach to the market. Each time I experienced a macroeconomic shock at one of the companies I led, I reacted differently. In more recent times, business leaders had to navigate through the Covid pandemic, which created a rapid macroeconomic shock unlike anything the world had ever seen. During uncertain times, this might entail making strategic decisions to prevent job losses.
