Singer and performer Josh Groban said his charitable giving was triggered by a surprise by his fans. But the Grammy winner was surprised when his fans interrupted one of his concerts in 2005 to give him a jumbo $50,000 check. Groban didn’t disappoint: he started the Josh Groban Foundation later that year, which supported a smattering of causes fueled by gifts from his fans, including an orphanage in Africa. Eventually, however, Groban decided he wanted his philanthropy to have more focus and not be tied to his name. He told Forbes that many of his clients struggle with focus when it comes to their philanthropy.
