CBS acted swiftly and decisively in terminating Charlie Rose. At that time, CBS was marking five years since the launch of CBS This Morning, which set itself apart from the beginning as the serious person's morning newscast, a sharp break from the celebrity-heavy fare at ABC's Good Morning America and NBC's Today. CBS This Morning had closed the gap on GMA and Today, with its ratings rising nearly 50% since the show's launch, while the two traditional morning show both have seen ratings drop-offs. And on one morning in April, CBS drew 3.83 million total viewers, putting the gap between CBS and NBC at just 147,000 people--the closest the two morning shows had been in decades. ABC's Diane Sawyer is another easy choice, as is former Today co-host Ann Curry and current ABC This Week co-host Martha Raddatz.
