When a CEO reprimands a taxi driver, or a hotel owner yells at a housekeeper, it elicits rage towards the powerful person and sympathy towards the blue-collar worker. How does a celebrity or president have time to engage, insult, engage again someone less famous and less powerful? He often seems like carnival barker who inserts himself into the limelight on the backs, or the reputations, of his famous basketball-playing sons. One of Ball’s sons, LiAngelo Ball, a freshman basketball player at UCLA, was arrested in China for shoplifting along with two other UCLA players. After being detained by Chinese authorities, all three students were allowed to return to the U.S. without being charged or arrested.
