Patients in Hull and the East Riding who are waiting for potentially life-changing hip and knee operations are being offered help to stay fit and well for surgery. While average waiting times for hip and knee surgery have decreased in recent months, at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (HUTHT) these still currently stand at around 40 weeks. The new “Waiting Well – Orthopaedics” programme is a joint venture between HUTHT and Forum, and is due to launch this week. The programme is designed for those who have been on waiting lists, or are likely to be on waiting lists for some time, to ensure they stay as fit and well as possible until their surgery date comes around. Eileen Henderson, head of outpatient services for HUTHT, said: “It’s no secret that hospitals have been experiencing some challenges when it comes to tackling surgical waiting lists.
