But Democrats have seized on what they see as a clear example of political influence improperly funded by Trump’s charity. In 2013, according to tax records, the Trump Foundation stopped giving to the Palm Beach Police Foundation. The police group, which gave Trump the award, did not know that Trump’s money had come from somebody else’s pocket.
