How Cork has changed, and aged, in a decade


The Cork City Profile 2018, published by Cork Healthy Cities, used data from the 2006, 2011, and 2016 censuses to provide an overview of the health and wellbeing of the city’s population over the course of the decade. By 2016, the ratio was one in six in the city (15.7%) and one in seven for both Cork City and suburbs. Between 2011 and 2016, Cork City recorded the largest increase (17.2%) in its non-Irish population to 2,505, with Polish people accounting for most. Students aged 15 and over accounted for 15.2% of the city’s population in 2016 compared to 11.4% nationally. Cork city has the youngest average age of first-time mothers at 30.3 years.
