Direct comparisons to the older Star Wars films are challenging. The Force Awakens was the first (live-action/non-Ewok) Star Wars movie ever to open in wide release on a Friday. And yeah, the film’s “weekend-to-day 11” multiplier lags Force Awakens (2.17x) and Rogue One (2.05x). The Empire Strikes Back took a 30% drop from Star Wars and Attack of the Clones took a 30% drop from The Phantom Menace, and The Last Jedi was always going to be the most frontloaded Star Wars movie yet. Oh, and the Star Wars trilogies have always peaked at “part 1” and (thus far) bottomed out at the first sequel.
