The Election Commission objected to Budget presentation ahead of elections in five states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa saying this might give the BJP undue advantage in assembly polls. Jaitley did not change the tax slab, but he effectively made zero tax liability for people earning upto Rs 3 lakh per year. The BJP is likely to take the message to people in all the states about working for the lower income group people.
