Husband and in-laws have brutally tortured a housewife and cut off her hair over dowry in Rangpur’s Sadar upazila. Police arrested her husband Monu Mia on Sunday night, Rangpur’s Kotwali police station OC ABM Jahidul Islam told Dhaka Tribune. According to the victim’s family, Manu Mia married Roksana, the only daughter of Rafiqul Islam from Panbazar village, about a year ago taking a dowry of Tk1 lakh from her parents. Victim’s father, considering the future of his only daughter, arranged Tk50,000 more for Roksana’s husband by selling some property. Police arrested Manu Mia from his home following a complaint filed by victim’s father with Kotwali police station under Women and Child Repression Prevention Act.
