(CNN) — The House has passed a bipartisan bill to avert a government shutdown just hours ahead of a midnight deadline, setting up a Senate vote over funding the US federal government for another 45 days. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced the proposal Saturday morning, following weeks of in-fighting between House Republicans. House Republicans met throughout Saturday morning, seesawing between options for how to proceed. The chamber is on track to take a procedural vote Saturday afternoon to move forward with the bill, particularly if the last-minute House bill falters. Border security has also become a complicating factor for the Senate bill as many Republicans now want to see the bill amended to address the issue.
