The number of these "variable hours contracts" has risen from 59 since 2015. As of February 28, 39 catering and retail staff and 24 Hansard reporters, who record debates in the Lords chamber, were on “variable hours contracts”. “Variable hours positions replaced the previous use of agency staff and casual staff; they did not replace any permanent contracted roles in the House of Lords. “Staff employed on variable hours contracts have equivalent employment rights as full-time staff including pension, holiday and sick pay entitlements and are paid at least the London Living Wage.”
