House of Cards producers press pause on filming in wake of Kevin Spacey allegations

Netflix and its House of Cards co-producers announced Tuesday that the sixth season of the series — already declared to be the final one — has been suspended until further notice in the wake of allegations against its star Kevin Spacey. Allegations emerged Sunday that Spacey had tried to sexually take advantage of actor Anthony Rapp in 1986, when the latter was 14 years old. On Monday, the producers stated that the season being filmed would be the final one, adding that as per the production schedule, Spacey was not on set that day. Executives from the two companies travelled to the Baltimore, Maryland, set on Monday to meet with actors and others involved in the production. Meanwhile, London’s historic Old Vic theatre, where Spacey served as artistic director for more than a decade until 2015, posted a statement Tuesday on its website that it is “deeply dismayed” by the allegations against Spacey.
