House honors Catriona Gray for ‘brillance’, advocacies on children’s welfareBy The Manila TimesTHE House of Representatives honored Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray with a resolution recognizing her “outstanding brilliance and intellect in the ‘question and answer’ portion of the pageantry” and commending her for “advocating for children’s welfare and HIV/AIDS awareness through her involvement in various organizations.”Deputy Speaker and Negros Occidental Rep. Mercedes Alvarez received Gray at the Speaker’s Social Hall on Friday afternoon. Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was not in the House because of another meeting she had to attend to. “It is with great pride and honor for the House of Representatives to have this privilege to meet reigning Miss Universe,” said Alvarez. Gray is collaborating with Young Focus Philippines to help provide free education for children in Tondo, Manila. During Wednesday’s briefing with reporters, Gray said that the country should instead focus on removing pressures on children and educating parents and communities on the issue.
