Fire crews battled a house fire in Manurewa's Stratford Rd on Thursday night in a bid to ensure it didn't spread to nearby scrub. Otara Fire Station senior station officer Brad Harvey said the weatherboard home was completely destroyed in the blaze when they arrived at the scene just after 6pm. "There was one person at the house at the time, but they escaped and there were no injuries," Harvey said. He said the location of the house, up a long driveway and surrounded by paddocks and trees, was problematic.
