Share TweetBy Charissa Luci-AtienzaThe House of Representatives has unanimously approved on third and final reading a bill seeking to preserve the indigenous games of the country. With 206 votes, the House passed House Bill 8626 or the proposed “Philippine Indigenous Games Preservation Act of 2017”, principally authored by 1-Ang Edukasyon Rep. Salvador Belaro. Belaro said there was a need to take the necessary steps to preserve the indigenous peoples’ games which serve as the best avenue for self-expression and promotion of peace, harmony, goodwill and camaraderie among the indigenous cultural communities (ICCs). The host LGU shall have the prerogative to choose which sports events shall be included in the regional and national indigenous sports competitions, it said.
