Share TweetBy Charissa Luci-AtienzaThe House of Representatives has unanimously passed on third and final reading a bill seeking to regulate and professionalize the practice of speech language pathology in the country. Principally authored by Batangas Rep. Harvey Vittorio Mariño, House Bill 8529 or the proposed “Speech Language Pathology Act” got the support of all 170 House members who were present during the voting. The bill establishes mechanisms, safeguards and procedures for the development of the speech language pathology profession in the country. It is also mandated to supervise and regulate the registration, licensure, and practice of speech language pathology in the Philippines; develop and maintain standards for the practice of speech language pathology; and adopt a Code of Ethics for speech language pathologists.
