Fable Dunedin general manager Sally Reiber said the boutique hotel - formerly called Wains Hotel - could not easily assess the impact of Covid-19 on its occupancy rates. Hotel Data New Zealand covers nearly 75% of all hotel rooms in New Zealand including Fable Dunedin. Tourism Industry Aotearoa chief executive Chris Roberts said that before Covid-19 hit, average hotel occupancy nationally was about 80%. Regionally, the biggest decline was in Queenstown, where average hotel occupancy fell from 82% in 2019 to 42% last year.
