The world record for the highest temperature may have been broken last Friday in Death Valley, California. The weather station at the aptly named Furnace Creek measured 54.4C although this will need to be verified by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and that could take years. The world’s highest temperature record has been a contentious issue and a good deal of caution is needed before any new record is officially recognised. Various sources list the highest temperature as 56.7C at Death Valley on July 10, 1913, although another contender is 58C at El Azizia in Libya on September 13, 1922. SponsoredDeath Valley is clearly a strong contender for exceptionally hot weather in the summer.
