Hospitals declare 'critical incident' and patients urged to go elsewhere as storms hit UK


Cars were left stranded in rising floodwater, Tube stations had to be shut and hospital emergency departments were flooded in the deluge. ITV reported that London hospitals had declared a 'critical incident' and more staff were being drafted in to help cope. A spokesperson said: "Heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely to cause surface water flooding. At Pudding Mill Lane DLR station in Stratford – one of several to be shut due to flooding – video footage showed torrents of water gushing in. There is also major disruption to and from Liverpool Street station due to flooding, with many services cancelled.
