Former College World Series winning coach George Horton has joined the staff of Orange Coast College in the wake of the tragic death of coach John Altobelli. “When I called J.J., he was overwhelmingly convincing for me to do this on behalf of his dad,” Horton said. He went 865-493-2 in 22 Division I college seasons. John Altobelli, 56, won 705 games and four community college state titles during 27 seasons at Orange Coast with the most recent title coming last season. Others who died in the crash included two of Alyssa Altobelli’s youth basketball teammates — Gianna Bryant (Kobe’s daughter) and Payton Chester.
