Horse trainers fear solar farm could endanger stables


Trainers and stud farm owners are among those opposed to the planned solar farm at the edge of the Curragh NIALL CARSON/PAHorse trainers have expressed concern that some stables could go out of business if a proposed solar farm is allowed to be located at the edge of the Curragh. Horse industry groups as well as local residents have mounted a challenge to the proposed development in the heart of the country’s equine industry. The Irish Racehorse Trainers Association as well as the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association are among parties to have lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanála. They are challenging Kildare county council’s decision to grant permission for the facility at Pollardstown near the Curragh to Power Capital Renewable Energy. The company plans to develop the solar farm with a four megawatt capacity using about 18,000 solar panels over a six-hectare site.
