A potentially-devastating cyclone is rapidly gaining momentum and is set to unleash lashing winds and devastating floods. The strengthening weather system is sitting over the Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland and is forecast to develop throughout Friday, according to the Bureau of Meteorology. The system was sitting about 125km west of Weipa in the Gulf of Carpentaria and extends north across the peninsula.
