Firefighters were called to a sizeable shed fire on State Highway 1, near Ōhau, at 1.50am on Wednesday. An early morning fire has threatened to spread to several buildings in rural Horowhenua. Whanganui firefighters meanwhile responded to a house fire on Smithfield Rd, near Moore Ave, at 7pm on Tuesday. Dalton said the house was extensively damaged before firefighters could tame the blaze, but nobody was injured. In both cases, the causes were yet to be determined and investigators were examining the scenes on Wednesday morning.
