Hornby Island, B.C., is known as the ‘Hawaii of the north’

HORNBY ISLAND, B.C.-Hornby is one of those places you want to tell everyone about and yet at the same time no one. Some things never change on Hornby Island, like the bocce balls on the sand. I have been returning to Hornby since I was a child and my own children have spent summer after barefoot summer exploring the island’s treasures. This may just be island lore but Hornby does seem to have a geography all its own. The Salish Sea island, often referred to as Hawaii of the north, has warm waters and sandy beaches that set it apart from neighbouring islands, with their rocky beaches and frigid ocean temperatures.
