Under the existing system of admissions through RTE, students are being admitted to private English medium schools at the cost of government-run Kannada medium schools, which are suffering on account of poor intake, many of which are on the verge of closure. And, ironically, the State government is paying the English medium schools. 100 less than the basic pay fixed for Government teachers, besides applicable DA and other benefits”, Mr. Horatti said. Merger of higher and primary educationMr. Horatti said efforts are also under way to merge the Department of Primary and Secondary Education with the Department of Higher Education.
