HOPEWELL JUNCTION- On April 20, 2023, seven members of American Legion Post 1758 in Hopewell Junction traveled to the Pinelawn National Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the post’s namesake, Charles P. “Manny” Bacon, being killed in action in North Africa during World War II. Private First Class Bacon was the first East Fishkill resident to die in World War II. After Bacon perished, fifteen other servicemembers from East Fishkill also made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.
