Hopeful attendees forced to watch public meeting in Timaru from hall foyer

A large crowd gathered at the Caroline Bay Hall on Thursday for a public meeting to address concerns and questions over a proposed retail development at Timaru's Showgrounds Hill. A public meeting to address concerns and questions over the development of the proposed retail centre at Timaru’s Showgrounds Hill was held at Caroline Bay Hall from 5.30pm on Thursday. Organised by the Timaru CBD Group, the meeting which was limited to 100 people, reached capacity just after it started with some hopeful attendees forced to listen from the foyer due to Covid-19 restrictions. Arriving at the meeting, Timaru District councillor Allan Booth said the meeting was important as it gave the public a chance to “air their views which they have been restricted in doing to this stage”. The meeting was live-streamed via the Timaru CBD Group Facebook page for those who could not attend.
