Hope for more snow for South Canterbury skifields

Warren Day, Kylie Murphy and Koa Day, of Fairlie, enjoy the first day of the ski season at Mt Dobson on Monday. South Canterbury skifield operators are hoping that a dry June doesn't turn into a dry July, as the skiing season gets underway. He said the skifield's grooming machine and snow maker were operating heavily in the lead-up to opening on Monday. Roundhill Ski Area manager Simon Murrell said the field had a base of about 30cm, and snowmaking machines were operating. Fox Peak Ski Area club president Alistair Millar said the club was waiting for another dump of snow before it could open.
