Opposition Senator Risa Hontiveros restated this fact of life to the Duterte administration on its ‘’unacceptable’’ human rights record highlighted by the detention of opposition Senator Leila de Lima more than two years ago. “Now that a US Senate panel proposed to ban the entry into the US of those involved in the illegal and unjustified detention of de Lima, Malacanang is angry and protesting to high heavens the unjustified recommendation of the US Senate panel,” Hontiveros pointed out. ‘’May I remind Malacañang that internationalism and solidarity in the face of human rights abuses do not constitute intrusion into one’s sovereignty. Hontiveros said it could serve as a stern warning to all those who rose to power in our country through killings and human rights abuses.
