New York, Oct 23 (PTI) Scientists have found the earliest known evidence for right-handedness in 1.8-million-year-old fossils of the prehistoric human ancestors, Homo habilis. "We already know that Homo habilis had brain lateralisation and was more like us than like apes. This extends it to handedness, which is key," said lead author David Frayer, professor at University of Kansas in the US. Based on the direction of the marks, it is evident the Homo habilis was right-handed. Today, researchers estimate that 90 per cent of humans are right-handed, and this differs from apes which are closer to a 50-50 ratio.
