After a wild and unpredictable six games in the World Series, perhaps we should have expected that there was one more surprise left: a straight-forward Game 7. All of the long balls in the World Series served to draw attention to one of baseball’s weird subplots: a dramatic spike in home runs that began in the second half of 2015 and has kept rising. Pitchers in the World Series complained further that the balls were slicker somehow. Death to The CodeNot only did the World Series break an official record for home runs, it destroyed the unofficial record for enthusiastic home run celebrations.
