Hold the applause, please: Liberal MPs opt for no-clapping policy in question period


Liberal MPs broke from longstanding tradition for a second straight day on Thursday by not clapping or otherwise showing their support whenever a government minister or parliamentary secretary responded during question period. Most agreed, however, there is a place for applause in the House of Commons, and there are better ways to improve decorum. “I show my enthusiasm by applauding.”He added applause and clapping aren’t the source of problems with decorum. But for the most part, the lack of applause or cheering from the government side during the 45-minute session was complete.
