Trevor Hofbauer was nearly four seconds ahead of fellow Canadian Rory Linkletter in Sunday’s 26-kilometer Toronto Waterfront Marathon when he developed a stomach cramp. “The marathon is a humbling distance,” said Hofbauer, who set the Canadian men’s course record at the April 18 Boston Marathon in 2:10:52 and finished 15th. The long-term qualification for the men’s marathon at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris has top priority for Hofbauer. Hofbauer finished 48th in his first Olympic marathon in 2:19:57. She finished ninth in Sapporo, the best Olympic marathon finish by a Canadian woman in non-boycotted games.
