Hockey: Black Sticks fall to hosts Australia in International Festival of Hockey


Australia 3New Zealand 1A late goal clinched the Four Nations international hockey title for hosts Australia against New Zealand in the final in Melbourne tonight. World No 1 Australia won the final 3-1, but New Zealand had a strong second half and fought hard for parity. By then, Australia had gone ahead through a Trent Mitton goal from close range which beat goalkeeper Richard Joyce on his left side. After Russell had raised Black Sticks hopes, Jeremy Hayward shut the door on New Zealand inside the last two minutes. Last weekend, New Zealand beat Australia 2-1 for their first win over the Australians in New Zealand since 1967.
