Stitched into the fabric of St Roch’s eye-catching green and white striped jersey is the working-class, Irish/Catholic identity of the streets that surround them. On one green and white flag there’s this: ‘The devil came and took me from bar to street to JMP (James McGrory Park). St Roch’s will eventually carry the day with a hard-fought 3-1 victory that keeps them second in the title race. With no other fixed or regular income, the takings from these games keep St Roch’s afloat. After the game last Saturday, Gerry Cosker and Stevie Wishart and me are discussing St Roch’s’ Irish identity and all those match-day tricolours.
