It was a poignant moment for a Brockford heritage railway when it welcomed a historic coach back to the site. The former Great Eastern Railway Coach number 14, bought by members of the railway, has arrived at Mid-Suffolk Light Railway, in Wetheringsett. The coach is the most important addition to the railway for many years, as it is the only known surviving coach that was used on the original Mid-Suffolk Light Railway. Successfully acquiring the coach is described as of ‘great importance’ to the railway, which is knows as the ‘Middy’. When the GER and the original Mid-Suffolk Light Railway were amalgamated as part of the creation of the London and North Eastern Railway, the coach continued in service with the engineers department, first based at Ipswich and later at Norwich.
