'Historic' $18m injection for stretched creative spaces

An historic, ring-fenced $18 million injection into creative spaces is overdue and a good starting point to making art accessible to vulnerable communities, advocates say. Richard Benge, executive director of Arts Access Aotearoa, an organisation which has been lobbying for support for creative spaces for years, said the spaces had been overlooked and underappreciated “for so long”. SUPPLIED Richard Benge, executive director of Arts Access Aotearoa, described the $18m fund as historic. Of the $18m, creative spaces will be able to receive up to $150,000 per year over three years. Sepuloni said creative spaces had an important role to play in enhancing the wellbeing of people who were at risk of being excluded.
