The Umno vice-president asked how the ruling party would benefit from the exercise when it doesn't even know what will be changed. "Even I as the Umno vice-president have no idea what they (EC) are doing to my constituency yet, so how can they claim that we (Umno) are influencing the redelineation process. A total of 12 parliamentary and 34 state constituencies in the peninsula could undergo a name change under the proposed changes. The EC also listed 13 proposed new state constituencies in Sabah, increasing the number of state seats to 73. It noted that except for the name change, the number of seats in the peninsula would remain the same.
