PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Armed Forces is on standby to provide humanitarian support to those affected by Typhoon Tembin in southern Philippines, said Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein (pic). The Defence Minister said he had contacted his counterpart in the Philippines to share his concerns and sympathies on the natural disaster. Hishammuddin, who had just returned from a working visit in Morocco on Monday morning, was referring to the tropical storm that has triggered floods and landslides, specifically in the towns of Tubod and Piagapo. "I have instructed the Malaysian Armed Forces to be on immediate standby and to coordinate the delivery of humanitarian assistance in the form of food distribution with our counterparts in the Philippines," he said in a statement on Monday (Dec 25). At least 200 people were reported dead and some 144 others missing in southern Philippines after the typhoon triggered landslides and flooding on Saturday (Dec 23).
