Hiker winched to safety after fall on bush trackWAIKATO WESTPAC The woman was flown to Waikato Hospital. A woman who broke hurt ankle in a fall during a walk on a bush track in the Waikato had to be winched to safety. The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the Mangaotaki Bush Reserve, west of PioPio, about 4pm. The "distressed hiker" was on the bush walk loop track when she fell and suffered a suspected broken ankle. She was winched from the bush into the helicopter and flown to Waikato Hospital.
