San Bernardino's high should dip to 97; L.A.'s high will drop to a more comfortable 80. Waves reached 14 feet at the Wedge in Newport Beach, as many residents flocked to the water to escape inland heat. Coastal areas will see highs in the 70s and 3- to 6-foot waves Friday, with a high risk of rip currents and dangerous swimming conditions. The Southland began warming up for its first heat wave of the year Thursday, with highs reaching the mid-80s and coastal areas seeing some impressive surf. A high of 103 is forecast for San Bernardino on Friday.
