The high country station where inventor Sir Bill Hamilton developed his ideas for water jet propulsion, has been taken off the market. Irishman Creek Station in the Mackenzie Basin was put up for sale earlier this year. The NZ Companies Office register shows Irishman Creek Station Ltd’s directors as Johannes Rietveld and Christine Rietveld of Ilam, Christchurch. Born at Ashwick sheep station, near Fairlie, Hamilton bought Irishman Creek Station in 1921 where he built a workshop later manufacturing machinery and, during World War II, munitions. Supplied/Stuff Sir Bill Hamilton did most of the testing for his Hamilton jet at Irishman Creek Station.
