Wallace Chan is drinking pu'erh tea in his Hong Kong office surrounded by his large titanium sculptures and some of his jewelry creations. I wanted to write about Chan’s newest innovation, unbreakable porcelain, which he first started showing to select people in June. That meant a two-day immersion into the world of Wallace Chan and his creative process. As with many of his innovations and creations, the inspiration for his unbreakable porcelain came from his childhood. Meanwhile, artisans carve and shape porcelain parts of various types and sizes that will eventually be pieced together and become elaborate Wallace Chan creations.
