The Frenchman served as Ghana's assistant coach under head coach Claude Ley Roy during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations which was hosted in Ghana. Though the Black Stars continue to fight for an AFCON trophy after almost four decades, Herve has two to his name after guarding Zambia and Ivory Coast in 2012 and 2015 respectively. However, Herve Renard who now serves as the manager of Saudi Arabia national team told TV3 in an interview that he will one day return to break Ghana's AFCON trophy drought.
