He said while Auckland and Wellington had the highest incomes in the country, people in Auckland were paying disproportionate amounts for housing. But he said it could improve as incomes picked up and the city's house prices stayed flat. In Auckland, high-end property prices were growing faster than any other segment of the market. Prices of the top 10 per cent in Auckland grew 2.9 per cent in the last year. In Tauranga, low-end property prices grew by 5.2 per cent in the last year, double that of Tauranga's median price.
